British Airways no longer flies directly to Uganda. They used to have a direct route from Heathrow to Entebbe, but that was stopped in October 2024. The airline dropped it because the route wasn’t making enough money.

You can’t fly straight to Kampala because the city doesn’t have an international airport. If you book a flight from London to Kampala, you’ll actually land in Entebbe. That’s the main airport for international travel, and it’s the closest one to the capital.

Yes, British passport holders need a visa before travelling to Uganda. You must apply for an e-Visa online before you fly. You can’t just turn up and get one at the airport unless you’ve been pre-approved in advance.

The visa for UK citizens is issued through Uganda’s official immigration website. When you apply, you’ll need to upload a few documents, including a copy of your passport and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Once approved, you’ll get an authorisation letter by email, which you’ll need to print and bring with you when you travel.

Also, note that your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive in Uganda. Without the e-Visa and proper documents, you won’t be allowed to board your flight.

Most parts of Uganda are safe for visitors in 2025, but there are some areas where you need to be extra careful. The UK government advises against all but essential travel to places near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. This includes areas near Queen Elizabeth National Park and Semuliki National Park.

In south-west Uganda, travel is generally safe but should always be done with trusted guides. Security escorts often travel with tourists in those areas.
