You can fly directly to India from the UK with several airlines. Air India offers direct flights from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and Birmingham to Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Bengaluru. British Airways also flies non-stop from Heathrow to five Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Similarly, Virgin Atlantic covers Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, also from Heathrow. From 1 July 2025, IndiGo has started flying non-stop from Manchester to Mumbai.

You might prefer direct flights if you want to save time. These routes are usually smoother and easier, especially when you are flying long-haul.

Does British Airways Provide UK to India Flights?

Yes, British Airways flies directly from the UK to India, and all their flights to India leave from London Heathrow. You can book a non-stop British Airways flight from Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, or Hyderabad. Many passengers like flying BA because it’s a full-service airline with airport lounges, onboard meals, and extra comfort.

If you live outside London, you can easily connect to Heathrow with a short domestic flight. Once you reach Heathrow, you can take a non-stop flight straight to your destination in India.

What Is the Average UK to India Flight Cost?

Flight costs from the UK to India depend on three things:

      • When you book

      • The class you choose.

For Economy, most return fares to India fall between £450 and £900. If you book during a sale or travel off-peak, you can sometimes find returns around £500 to £550. Premium Economy, called “Premium” on Virgin Atlantic, normally ranges from £900 to £1,300.

      UK to India Flight Duration

The flight time from the UK to India depends on whether you fly direct or with a stopover. Direct flights from London to India usually take between 8 to 9 hours. If you fly non-stop from London to Delhi, it takes about 8 hours and 45 minutes. A direct flight to Mumbai takes roughly 8 and a half hours.

One-stop flights, like those connecting through Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, or Istanbul, take longer. Expect a total journey time of around 12 to 16 hours, depending on how long your layover is.

      Manchester to India Flight Duration

IndiGo has launched a direct flight from Manchester to India, reaching Mumbai in just over 9 hours. That’s the only direct service currently available from Manchester. If you're heading to other cities in India, you’ll need to take a one-stop flight. The total journey time on those routes can be anywhere from 12 to 18 hours. It depends on your layover time and how far into India you’re flying.

If you're based in the North of England, this new direct option to Mumbai can save you a lot of time and hassle. You won’t have to go down to London, and you get to skip the stopover too.

Can You Fly to India from Birmingham?

Yes, you can fly to India directly from Birmingham. Air India operates a non-stop flight from Birmingham to Amritsar on selected days. For other cities in India, you can choose from many one-stop routes. Airlines like Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines all offer flights from Birmingham with a stop in places like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, or Istanbul.

      UK to Ahmedabad Flight

If you're flying non-stop from the UK to Ahmedabad on Air India flights, it will usually take around 8 hours and 48 minutes. If you don’t find a direct flight, you can also fly one-stop through cities like Dubai, Doha, or Istanbul. Those journeys usually take between 12 and 16 hours in total, depending on your layover. But if speed and convenience matter, the non-stop flight is the way to go.

      UK to Amritsar Flight Duration

On average, a direct flight from the UK to Amritsar lasts about 8 hours. If you're heading to Punjab and want to avoid changing planes, this is the fastest and most comfortable way to get there. You simply board in the UK and land straight in Amritsar without any stopovers or delays in between.

If the direct option doesn’t match your travel date, you can also fly with one stop. Airlines like Qatar Airways or Emirates usually connect you through Doha or Dubai. These flights can take anywhere from 12 to 16 hours, depending on your layover.

Are There Direct Flights From the UK to Kolkata?

Currently, you cannot fly directly from the UK to Kolkata. If you're planning to visit the city, you’ll need to take a one-stop flight. Your total travel time is usually between 12 and 17 hours, depending on how long your stop is.

      UK to Chandigarh Flight Time

There are no direct flights from the UK to Chandigarh. You’ll need to take a one-stop flight, usually with a connection in Delhi or another nearby city.

The flying time alone is around 10 to 11 hours. But once you include the stopover, the full journey can take between 12 and 16 hours, or sometimes even longer. This depends on your airline and how long your layover is.

Direct Flights to Goa From the UK

Yes, you can now fly non-stop from the UK to Goa. Air India runs a direct service from London to Goa’s new Mopa airport. The flight usually takes between 9 hours and 5 minutes to 9 hours and 50 minutes. That means you can get to one of India’s top beach destinations without wasting time on stopovers.

      UK to Chennai Flight Duration

It takes a little more than 10 hours to fly directly from the UK to Chennai. That makes it one of the quickest ways to reach southern India. You also have one-stop options through places like Doha or Dubai. But if saving time matters to you, the direct flight is your best choice.

Direct Flights From the UK to Pune

No airline offers direct flights between the UK and Pune right now, so you’ll need to book a one-stop flight with a layover. The full journey usually takes between 12 and 17 hours, depending on which airline you choose and how long the stop is.

The Best Time to Visit India

The ideal time to visit India is from late October to March, when it’s cooler and drier. It’s a great time for exploring cities like Delhi, Jaipur, or Agra. Beach areas like Goa and Kerala also have sunny, pleasant weather during winter. Just keep in mind that December and January can be chilly in the north.

Wildlife parks, especially in central India, are best between March and early June when animals are easier to spot. Because this period is so popular, flights and hotels can be more expensive.

The Cheapest Time to Visit India

The cheapest time to fly to India is usually during the summer and rainy monsoon months, which are from April to June and from June to September. Keep in mind, much of India can be extremely hot in summer, especially in the central and northern regions. During monsoon season, places like Kerala, Mumbai, and Kolkata experience heavy rain, which can affect travel plans.

Is It Safe to Visit India?

The UK government advises against travelling within 10 kilometres of the India-Pakistan border. You should not travel to Jammu and Kashmir, including places like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Srinagar. Travel is only considered safe by air into Jammu city or within Ladakh.

After the Air India crash in Ahmedabad on 12 June, support lines were also available at 1800 5691 444 (India) or +91 8062779200 (outside India).

Is India Visa Free for UK Citizens?

A visa is mandatory for UK citizens travelling to India. You can’t enter without one unless you hold an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.

Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months from the day you arrive in India, with at least two blank pages.

Most UK travellers apply for a tourist e-visa, which you can do online. There are other visa types too, so make sure you pick the one that matches your reason for travel. If you get the wrong visa, you could be refused entry or banned from visiting again. Moreover, if you’re of Pakistani origin, visa processing takes longer and comes with stricter rules.
